TRAVELLING
ABROAD?
Please plan ahead if you require vaccinations. Our travel clinic is nurse-led
and provides a comprehensive service. However, to deliver this service it is essential
that you allow enough time for the appropriate vaccines to be ordered and given
to you. To be effective, many vaccinations have to be given well in advance of
travel. Some vaccinations may incur substantial costs.
The practice is also a Yellow Fever centre for both registered and non- registered
patients. The Certificate of Vaccination is valid 10 days after the vaccination
is given. PLEASE PLAN AHEAD FOR SAFE TRAVEL.

LOOKING
AFTER YOURSELF
Stop Smoking No
other single factor increases your risk of ill health so much as cigarette
smoking.
Nicotine is an addictive drug and thus difficult to give
up - so don't start and don't encourage others to do so. If you are
a smoker, you risk lung cancer, heart disease, chronic bronchitis, stomach
ulcers and other conditions - not to mention a hole in your pocket!
Think seriously about giving up - ask your doctor, health visitor or
nurse for
help and advice. Our lead for stopping smoking is our
practice nurse, Wendy Hale.
Alcohol Intake Excessive
alcohol intake will predispose to liver disease, brain damage, high
blood pressure and impotence. Men should restrict themselves to less
than 28 units per week, women to less than 21 units per week.
1 unit = 1/2 pint of beer, a glass of wine or a single spirit measure.
If you think you have an alcohol problem discuss this with your doctor.
Take
Regular Exercise This improves muscle tone and general wellbeing.
Little and often is better than occasional intensive sessions and three
20 minute sessions per week are recommended.
Healthy
Eating Reduce fat intake, particularly animal and saturated
fat (butter, cream etc). Increase fibre and carbohydrates eg jacket
potatoes, pasta, rice, cereals. Eat plenty of fruit and vegetables.
